Next up in our series of depot profiles is Unity!

Unity is a community of great recyclers, and the town is the winner of the 2012 Saskatchewan Municipal Awards in Environmental Stewardship Category for the Wastewater Diversion Project. Along with this award, Unity was named the 2003 National Community in Bloom. Unity has also been made famous by playwright Kevin Kerr, who wrote his Governor General’s Award winning play titled Unity (1918), about the 1918 flu pandemic.

The Unity Depot opened its doors in December of 1988. Over the last 25 years the Unity depot has helped the community recycle 42,716,876 containers with 2,186,563 containers recycled from April 2012 to March 2013. Wow! Connie Bracken and her crew continue to do an amazing job every year to serve the 2,389 people of Unity and surrounding area.

Since being founded in 1904, Unity has grown to have two elementary schools, one high school and is home to the North West Regional College. It is also home to the Unity and District Heritage Museum, as well as countless Rider fans.  So if you are in the neighborhood stop on in and say hi to Connie and the crew!
